Centaurea cyanus
Over the centuries, the symbolic meaning given to Bachelor’s Button (Centaurea cyanus) was romantic. It was worn by bachelors to test if their courting was successful (if the bloom withered quickly the young couple’s love was not to last, so they said). More recently, it has also been the symbol of various, mostly progressive, political movements. It is also known as Cornflower. The bachelor button ‘Polka Dot Mix' makes great cutting flowers.
Each year, the Hudson Valley Seed Company commissions contemporary artists from around the U.S. to tell the story of a particular seed variety, a unique way to celebrate seeds' diverse stories before you enjoy the harvest!
