Ebenezer Akakpo of Westbrook was born in Ghana and educated in Florence Italy, and at the Maine College of Art and Rochester Institute of Technology. He uses traditional designs of his Ghanaian heritage to create pieces of art that carry personal and cultural power. But his mission also uses design as a tool to solve problems. After designing a portable filtration system to purify water for the people of his native Ghana, he uses proceeds from certain jewelry lines to fund his Better Water Maker project.
