DAHLIA: HAY DAY
$9.50
· Prolific 3 to 4-inch blooms with a fiery glow. Bright orange petals surround a heart of gold on this formal decorative dahlia.

· Blooms from mid-summer until frost on 4-foot plants; space 18 to 24 inches apart

· Dahlias are tropical plants and may sometimes overwinter in garden zones 8 and higher and are prone to rot if too wet. Come winter, lift and store the tubers somewhere that is cool, dark, and dry. Detailed care instructions will be provided with each tuber.

· Tubers will be shipped when temperatures in Maine will allow us to do so safely

The thousands of dahlias we see today are all hybrids from one ragged wildflower native to Mexico. Dutch hybridizers were thrilled at how easily it took to various crosses, changes, and "improvements." Over the last few years, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens has built its spiral-shaped Dahlia Garden, recently dedicated to Board member, Mary B. Neal, to showcase these amazing plants and provide a blazing burst of color in the late summer and fall. Our Horticulture Department has supplied a fantastic variety of tubers to the Gardenshop from the Dahlia Garden and we would like to offer them to you to bring a bit of our Gardens to yours.

Your purchase is powerful. Not only does it help to sustain local artisans and preserve traditional arts and crafts, but it directly supports horticulture, research, and educational programming at the Gardens.
